During my intership with the University Center in Svalbard (UNIS), I got to work on the IWIN project to prepare the automatic weather station (AWS) for their deployment on the different boats together with Lukas Frank and Marius Jonassen.
For the season 2024, the UNIS boat Hanna Resvoll has received a weather station and I got the mission to develop a solution to display the data coming out from the AWS.
The guidelines for this project were to have a solution based on a Raspberry Pi with a touchscreen to interact with the display. The adaptability of the visualization and the possibility to change the displayed value easily was also in a centered place.

We choose to build a display using a 3D printed casing to have the display solution the more compact possible and using the software OpenPlotter as display solution.
Then we had to adapt the data logger in order to transmit the data to OpenPlotter using a serial connection over USB with the NMEA 0183 sentences formatting.
This project also included the adaptation of the equipment provided by the UNIS reseller ITAS to the boat specification, including creating an intermediate wiring box on the top of the boat in order to carry all the sensors wire in a single cable.
